Background

The Islamic Center of Twin Ports (ICTP) was established in 1998 as a non-profit organization under the laws of the State of Minnesota to serve the religious, educational and cultural needs of Muslims in the twin ports of Duluth, MN and Superior, WI and surrounding communities. As the only Islamic center in a 150-mile radius between the Minneapolis- St. Paul metropolitan area and the Canadian border, the ICTP serves a broad geographic area including Northeastern Minnesota, Northwestern Wisconsin and even portions of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

The Duluth-Superior area offers its residents a high quality of life.  The area has an abundance of natural beauty, clean air and water, excellent schools and colleges, and state of the art medical facilities.  However, many Muslims who explore relocating to this area choose not to do so because of the lack of an Islamic Center facility in the area.

 The ICTP, a federally recognized tax-exempt organization, currently offers community members the opportunity to participate in Jumah prayers, Eid prayers and celebrations, some educational and informational programs and an independently run voluntary Sunday Islamic School program..

In addition the ICTP coordinates many social activities such as potluck get-togethers, picnics, and weekly Iftar dinners during the holy month of Ramadan. All these activities must take place in various rented facilities in churches. With more than a hundred churches and 4 sinagogues, there is currently one Islamic Center in Duluth.

We identified an exisitng church for sale to be Inshaalah our Islamic Center. The major chalenge is funding as the asked price of that  church is S399,000. We welhamdollalh could purchase the church and we are looking for support form our other Muslim brothers. We need contributions to fulfill our financial purchase obligations as well as utility, maintenance and community activities expenses. With a relatively small local Muslim population, it is impossible to reach our fundraising goals without your generosity and help.
